Northville Now

Northville, MI Community
Autumn in Michigan isn't complete without a trip to a cider mill, and Obstbaum Orchards & Cider Mill is a must-visit spot for anyone in the Northville area. This family-owned and operated gem sits on 27 acres of natural land, just waiting for you to explore.

Location and Getting There

You'll find Obstbaum Orchards at 9252 Currie Road, Northville, MI 48167. It's not exactly in the heart of Northville, but it's close enough to call it local. The orchard is on Currie Road, nicely tucked between 7 Mile and 8 Mile Roads. If you're coming from Beck Road, head about 4 miles west. Or, if you're near Pontiac Trail, go about 4 miles east. Either way, you'll end up at apple paradise.

What's in a Name?

Let's talk about that name for a second. "Obstbaum" might sound like a mouthful, but it's German for "fruit tree." It's pretty fitting for an apple orchard. It's like they knew their destiny from the start.

Apple Picking Adventures

When fall rolls around, Obstbaum Orchards opens its gates to apple enthusiasts. They offer U-Pick apples, which means you get to play farmer for a day. Ida Red and Red Delicious varieties are up for grabs. Remember, apple picking is like a treasure hunt – the best ones are often hiding!

Cider and Donuts: A Match Made in Heaven

Now, let's get to the real stars of the show: cider and donuts. Obstbaum's country store is where the magic happens. They've got viewing areas where you can watch cider being pressed and donuts being made. It's like a behind-the-scenes tour of deliciousness. The apple cider here isn't just any old juice. It's fresh-pressed, which means it's got that crisp, apple-y kick that makes you go "Ahhh" after every sip. And don't even get me started on the donuts. These aren't your average, run-of-the-mill donuts. We're talking about warm, cinnamon-sugar-coated pieces of heaven that practically melt in your mouth.

Beyond Apples: Other Orchard Offerings

While apples are the main attraction, Obstbaum Orchards has plenty more up its sleeve. Their country store is stocked with all sorts of goodies:
  • Honey: Because sometimes you need something sweeter than an apple
  • Jams and Jellies: For when you want to spread some fruity joy on your toast
  • Maple Syrup: In case you need a reason to make pancakes
  • Pumpkins: Because it's not fall without a jack-o'-lantern

Fun for the Whole Family

Obstbaum Orchards isn't just about stuffing your face with apples and donuts (although that's a valid way to spend time there). They've got activities to keep the whole family entertained: Hayrides: On weekends, you can hop on a hayride and tour the orchard in style. It's bumpy and fun; you might even find a piece of hay in your hair later as a souvenir. Walking Trails: For those who prefer to explore on foot, there are walking trails throughout the 27-acre property. It's a great way to work off those donuts... so you can eat more. Educational Activities: They offer some educational activities, too. Learning is always better when there's food involved, right? Picnic Area: Pack a lunch and make a day of it. Don't be surprised if your sandwich feels lackluster compared to all the orchard goodies.

For the Grown-Ups

Obstbaum Orchards isn't just for the kids. They've got some adult-friendly offerings too: Wine Tasting: Yes, you read that right. They make wine here, too. It's like they took everything good about fall and bottled it. Hard Cider: For those who like apple juice with a kick, Obstbaum offers a hard cider. It's like regular cider, but it makes you funnier and better at dancing.

Plan Your Visit

Obstbaum Orchards is open from September through October but only on weekends. Their hours are Friday through Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm. It's a good idea to arrive early, especially if you plan to pick apples. The good ones go fast! If you're coming with a big group, don't worry. They have tour bus parking available. Imagine a whole busload of people racing towards the donut counter. It's a beautiful sight.

The Obstbaum Experience

A trip to Obstbaum Orchards is more than just a chance to stock up on apples and cider. It's a full-on fall experience. The crisp air, the crunch of leaves under your feet, the smell of cinnamon and apples... it's like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting but with better snacks. Whether you're a local looking for a weekend activity or a tourist trying to soak up some Michigan charm, Obstbaum Orchards delivers. It's the kind of place that'll have you check your calendar to see how soon you can return. So next time you're in the Northville area and feel that fall craving coming on, you know where to go.
